Cleaner

Martha, the cleaning lady enters the kitchen, and prepares to work. Overcome by the tedium, she begins to play with the tools of her trade – recreating loves lived, loves lost and loves imagined…

Presented in an urban kitchen/living room, and presented to a maximum audience of 15, Cleaner was asylum's first 'off site' production. This 20 minute solo performance was conceived by Medb Lambert, and developed with director Donal Gallagher.

An experiment in 'object theatre' the piece was rehearsed over a number of weeks in; a warehouse, an old shoe factory, on a rocky island off the west coast, a disused church and in the directors' own kitchen. Cleaner saw its first public outing as a 'work in progress' at the Áras Éanna Arts Centre, Inis Oírr after a week-long residency.
