About Asylum Productions
Asylum is a production driven theatre company.
We recognise that far too many Irish theatre companies are forced to spend large amounts of their resources on company structures simply to exist – allowing scant resources for the actual production of theatre work. These same structures are being duplicated among Irish theatre companies, festivals and venues, providing work for essential administrative staff, but little work for artists.
Asylum has always sought to develop alternative frameworks in which to produce theatre in Ireland. We work in collaboration with existing arts and educational organisations. By sharing the resources of co-producers we can minimise our own administrative framework and focus our creative energy and financial resources on the actual production of theatre.
Asylum has no office, no phone line, no office manager, no administrator, no FAS schemes, no computers, faxes, copiers or printers, no tax clearance certificates, no bank account, no legal fees, no accountants, no lawyers, no rehearsal space, no old stored props...
To date every penny of state funding received by Asylum has gone towards direct artistic costs.
