Asylum is a collective of independent like-minded Irish theatre makers dedicated to developing new and innovative Irish theatre for national and international audiences.
We work predominantly with new and contemporary Irish theatre writing. Since our foundation in 1998, we have presented a number of critically acclaimed productions, from writers such as Enda Walsh, Ursula Rani Sarma, Neil O'Sullivan and Ciaran Ruby (assisted by Thomas Kilroy).
In recent years we have begun exploring non-text based theatre, drawing on traditions of puppetry and object theatre.
Co - Producers
Asylum differs from our contemporaries in that we do not have an administrative base. Instead, we work in partnership with existing arts organizations, sharing resources, reducing our administrative costs and focusing our financial resources on creating quality theatre.
We work with a wide diversity of co-producers including festivals, venues, fellow theatre companies, community groups and registered charities.
Education & Development
We also believe strongly in the use of theatre as an educational and development tool. We have developed a wide variety of educational and community-based projects. Working in collaboration with educational and community based agencies we create projects that provide a medium of self-expression for the participants, while producing work of the highest possible artistic standard.
